Whether you are just passing through the Bethlehem district of a day or so, or whether you would like to stay and explore for several weeks, ATG can arrange home-stays that fit your needs. Contact us for details.

The Alternative Tourism Group offers an organized home-stay with local Palestinian families.  Homes in the Bethlehem area were renovated and furnished as an accommodation facility for tourists and pilgrims. The purpose of this project is to give our visitors the chance to experience the Palestinian culture and hospitality by spending more time with indigenous people of Palestine. The standard of these accommodations was set according to the regulations and guidelines of the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. This Project was financed by the government of Japan and was implemented by the UNDP.

When you stay with a family, you will:

  • Taste local traditional food
  • Enjoy Palestinian folklore music
  • Interact with local people
  • Enrich your understanding of the Palestinian culture
  • Extend your friendship circle
  • Appreciate the Palestinian hospitality

Staying with a family during your visit to Palestine can offer a unique and enriching cultural experience. Palestinian cuisine is a rich blend of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors, and tasting local traditional food is a must-do when visiting Palestine. By staying with a local family, you can experience authentic home-cooked meals that are not easily found in restaurants or cafes. You may also have the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of certain dishes, and how they relate to Palestinian culture and identity.

In addition to enjoying local cuisine, staying with a family can provide the opportunity to experience traditional Palestinian music and dance. Palestinian folklore music and dance are an integral part of Palestinian culture and history, and have been passed down through generations. By attending local music and dance events or even participating in them, you can gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of these art forms and their role in Palestinian society.

Staying with a family can also allow for more meaningful interactions with local people. By immersing yourself in the local community, you can gain insights into daily life in Palestine, and learn about the challenges and opportunities that people face. You may also have the opportunity to participate in community activities or volunteer with local organizations, which can provide a sense of fulfillment and connection to the people and places you visit.

By staying with a family, you can broaden your perspective on the world, and deepen your understanding of Palestinian customs and traditions. You can also extend your friendship circle, and build lasting relationships with local people who can serve as valuable resources and friends long after your trip is over. Finally, by experiencing Palestinian hospitality first-hand, you can appreciate the warmth, generosity, and resilience of the Palestinian people, and gain a new appreciation for the power of human connection.
